The 2008 session of the Virginia General Assembly concluded its business in Early March, 2008. While they contended with many issues, there were only 2 that directly affected VAMMHA and the manufactured and modular housing industry. They were:
House Bill 44 – This Bill gave the Manufactured Housing Board the authority to promulgate regulations that will make it more difficult for individuals, or a group of individuals, that have gone out of business for various reasons to be re-licensed by the Manufactured Housing Board. A committee formed by the Dept. of Housing will meet soon to determine what those specific regulations will be.
- House Bill 660 – was a Bill introduced by a Delegate on the Eastern Shore that simply says that any manufactured home, after being sited with the wheels, axle and hitches removed, will be considered Real Property, under DMV Regulations, whether or not the title has been surrendered to DMV.
Since our outstanding years of 1990 and 1995 when we won favorable zoning for manufactured homes in all Agricultural Zones state-wide, our main legislative goal has been to make sure that those guarantees remain in Virginia law. As of this writing, no legislator has introduced legislation to repeal what we achieved in the early 90’s, but we will continue to closely monitor that specific situation.
