Representing its Members

“A group always speaks with a louder and more effective voice than an individual.”

That’s the basis of any Association and certainly is one of the main reasons that VAMMHA has been successful regulatory, legally and legislatively over the years.

About VAMMHA

Our Purpose

Manufactured HomeVAMMHA shall be an association of members having a common business interest in manufactured and modular housing.  Its primary purpose shall be to promote its members' common business interest in manufactured and modular housing, while its primary activities shall at all times be directed to improving the business conditions of its members.  VAMMHA shall not engage in a regular business of a kind ordinarily carried on for profit, nor shall its activities be confined to the performance of particular services for individual members.

VAMMHA Background

Today’s Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association (VAMMHA), then the Virginia Trailer Association, was established by a small group of people including Al Underwood, Ted Usry and Glenn Teasley, in 1965 to represent the then "mobile home" industry in Virginia.  Figuring that joining together, the industry would be able to speak with a louder and more effective voice than any individual retailer or manufacturer. By doing so, VAMMHA has become a force in Virginia in the areas of regulation, legislation and zoning. We continue to represent our membership in those areas and many others. Over the years we have worked with:

  • Department of Housing to create the Manufactured Housing Board to regulate the industry and protect the consumer.
  • Department of Transportation to secure better hours of movement for our homes and the permitting of 16’ homes.
  • Department of Taxation to reduce taxes on modular homes and keep the current taxation of manufactured homes.
  • Department of Motor Vehicles on title issues and taxation.
  • Virginia Legislature on state-wide zoning issues, skirting, taxation, regulation and many other issues.

VAMMHA continues to monitor the above groups to make sure that the industry is treated fairly and allows us the opportunity to continue growing. Although the housing market is in a historic low period at this writing, the cycle will change and housing will continue to grow and be a viable industry in Virginia.
